The LAP-BAND® is a systematic weight loss program, not simply an operation. Unlike many other surgical procedures, the decision to use the LAP-BAND® System for weight loss often requires more than just the surgical team.

We use a small team of health professions to support patients after their surgery, including nutrition, exercise, psychology, medical and nursing.

• Ongoing post-operative support program

• Sustained follow-up that is needed for the remainder of the time that you are using the LAP-BAND®

Our Fee Structure

Surgery and charges at our practice should be discussed with Stephen or our Practice Manager. We do our best to keep running expenses at the practice to a minimum. This is in recognition of increasing financial hardship in the current economic climate.  Despite our efforts there maybe some out of pocket expenses.

Patients with Private Insurance

Uninsured patients

Uninsured patients will be bulk billed for consultations.

For uninsured patients requiring surgery, Dr Wilkinson operates at the Royal Hobart Hospital and will make every effort to assist you through the waiting list process. For uninsured patients wishing to have surgery in the private system, there will be some out of pocket expense above the Medicare rebate and our staff will explain the likely charges by the hospital and anesthetist and for the surgery itself.

Your Safety Is Our Focus

Dr Stephen Wilkinson maintains full accreditation with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons including peer review of all cases, and he maintains membership of the Obesity Surgery Society of Australia and New Zealand (OSSANZ), the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO), and undertakes ongoing research and training in Obesity Surgery.

These are critical requirements for safe and up to date anti-obesity surgery. The practice of surgery is not a ‘business venture’ to be provided at the cheapest rate. Dr Stephen Wilkinson does keep costs to patients to the minimum. It is difficult enough maintaining Private Health cover without extra charges being added on top. Dr Wilkinson insists on maintaining professional standards reviewed by peers, and in undertaking continuous training in technical details. If you require, Dr Stephen Wilkinson will provide you details of his certification, peer review, Society membership, and research (a list of publications can be found here).
